average used to have a labor cost.
someone had to write the safe headline, build the ordinary presentation, clean up the predictable image, and turn the same five ideas into another strategy deck.
now a machine can do it before lunch.
that does not make the work worthless. it exposes what the work was always worth.
the customer never bought the process.
they bought the result.
ai is stripping away the protection that average work enjoyed. competent output is becoming abundant. clean writing, acceptable design, basic code, and reasonable analysis are no longer rare simply because they take time.
this will scare people who built their value around production.
it should excite people who built it around judgment.
judgment is knowing which problem deserves to be solved. it is recognizing the sentence that sounds good but says nothing. it is killing the feature everybody worked on because the customer does not need it. it is choosing one strong idea while a machine offers you one hundred decent ones.
that choice is where the value moved.
the lazy response is to generate more. more campaigns. more pages. more options. more polished material waiting for somebody else to decide whether any of it matters.
volume can hide weak thinking for a while. then the review bill arrives.
the stronger response is to raise the standard. ask whether the work is true, useful, memorable, and worth the customer's time. ask what only your company understands. ask what decision you are willing to defend when the easy answer fails.
ai will not make taste automatic. it will make the absence of taste impossible to ignore.
learn the mechanism beneath the work. learn the customer. learn why one decision creates value and another creates noise. become the person who can tell the difference before the market has to.
this is not permission to become precious. judgment still has to ship. taste that never reaches the customer is private entertainment.
average is not disappearing.
it is losing its premium.
do not charge more because the work took longer.
build something that deserves to cost more.
